Washington State Route 543
On Wednesday, July 24, 2024, we crossed the border once more, this time via Washington State Route 543.
A state highway to be known as state route number 543 is established as follows:Beginning at a junction with state route number 5 in the vicinity of Blaine, thence northerly to the international boundary.
We branch off I-5 toward the Truck Route (Open to All Vehicles) and Highway 543 begins.
There's a line of trucks parked on the shoulder of almost the entire length of this highway. It's not a long highway. After a couple stop lights, we head quickly to the border. Here's a photo about halfway along.
The border crossing lineup didn't even start till we get into Canada, so we're rolling along as we pass the duty free shops. On the Canadian side, they call this the Pacific Crossing, even though it's farther from the Pacific Ocean than the Peace Arch Crossing.
Well, that was quick... as long as you're not a truck driver.
