Washington State Route 528

On Saturday, May 23, 2020, we drove Washington State Route 528 from Marysville up the hill.

RCW 47.17.750
State route No. 528
:

A state highway to be known as state route number 528 is established as follows:

Beginning at a junction with state route number 5 near Marysville, thence easterly to a junction with state route number 9. Until such time as state route number 528 from Marysville to a junction with state route number 9 is actually constructed on the location adopted by the department, no existing city streets or county roads may be maintained or improved by the department as a temporary route of state route number 528.

SR 528 @ I-5
Highway 528 was a later addition to the highway system, as you might gather from the above description. There were plenty of roads heading east from Marysville, but none were particularly wide or straight, it seems. Highway 528 begins with a junction with I-5, between Marysville's old downtown and the south end of the Tulalip casinos.

SR 528 @ SR 529
A few blocks later, we reach the junction with SR 529, here known as State Ave. It's a state highway, you see? Marysville's downtown doesn't have as many old buildings as I expected.

SR 528 @ SR 9
Eastward, Highway 528 curves north a bit (on a section of road specifically built for the highway) onto old Hickok Rd. The farmland is now houses and apartments. After a mile of the broad boulevard, we start up the hill. The last half mile was also built by the state, straightening out the old road. Just after the new Walmart, we reach SR 9 and the end of Highway 528.

Arlington? Snohomish? Where shall we go?
